Director, Performer, Educator

Erin McGrath is the Artistic Director of Winnipeg Studio Theatre (WST). Under her leadership, WST has shifted its process to include an annual season of initiatives that serve the Winnipeg Theatre Community, culminating and a fully staged production. In 2023 Erin was awarded the DEIB Leadership Award by the Work Wellness institute for initiatives creating great accessibility in rehearsals. 2024's season has been designed to support the development of artists of under recognized genders into leadership positions.

A director, actor, and educator, Erin graduated for the Randolph College for the Performing Arts. She has directed and performed in major regional theatres across the country. Originally from New Brunswick, Erin relocated to Winnipeg in 2005. She has played on all the Winnipeg professional stages. Selections include Ubuntu: The Cape Town Project (PTE), The Penelopiad (RMTC), Angels In America: Perestroika (WJT), Age of Arousal (TPM), Sunday In The Park With George (Gallery Works), and Bridges of Madison County (Dry Cold). Musical Theatre is where her performance training was focused and she has had the privilege to perform across the country in productions such as Fiddler on the Roof (Chemainus Theatre Festival), Seussical, My Fair Lady (Western Canada Theatre), and Still Desire You (Alberta Theatre Projects). Her work as a director was most recently seen with WST’s own production of FAME. Other selected directing credits include: A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Dry Cold), Spelling 255 (MTYP), She Kills Monsters (U of W)and Urinetown (Royal MB Theatre Centre).

Erin is also an emerging scholar. She has worked as an educator, directing shows for Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP), Prairie Theatre Exchange School, the University of Winnipeg and The University of Manitoba Opera Theatre. Erin's current independent research focuses on provocative theatre for young people. Erin has had the honour of presenting multiple times at the Youth and Children in Performance Conference hosted by York University and Young Peoples Theatre in Toronto.
